The Purdy Livestock Show Rules and Terminal Sale

Management of show and sale shall consist of one FFA Advisor from each of the Barry Country Schools and Superintendent of the Purdy Livestock Show who shall serve as committee chair.

​

**Barry County School Districts shall be: Cassville, Exeter, Monett, Purdy, Southwest, and Wheaton.

​

General Rules

      1. Students must live, or attend, school, in Barry County and be a member of their respective FFA Champters or have the approval of the local FFA Advisor.

      2. Producer of the animal must reside in Barry County or Barry County School District.

      3. All animals eligible for the sale must sell. NO exceptions.

      4. No fitters will be allowed the day of the show. Only immediate family or the agriculture instructor can fit the animals. *(See exhibitor code of ethics)

      5. Exhibitors can be no older than 21 as of January 1st, year of show.

      6. Each exhibitor agrees to submit and an animal entered to inspection via veterinarian appointed by management, and agrees to have such animal submitted to any tests as may be designated and requested by the veterinarian. Further, the exhibitor agrees that the conclusions reached by the veterinarian as to whether such animal is unhealthy, unethically fitter or altered shall be final.

      7. Good animal health, feeding and handling practices must be followed by all exhibitors. Any failure to follow these practices could mean being banned from future competition. It shall be the opinion of the superintendent and veterinarian if any animal has been neglected or abuse.

      8. Exhibitors may not sell more than one animal.

      9. Exhibitors must show their own animals.

     10. Purdy Livestock Show guarantees a floor of current market price on all species.

           Exhibitors are responsible for premiums.

     11. Animals must be fed, cared for, and exhibited under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian. Excusing a member from personally exhibiting his/her animal(s) defeats one of the important objectives of livestock projects. Hence, management does not approve substitution showmen except in extreme cases. In approved emergency cases, another junior member may assume these duties.

     12. Animals with active lesions of ringworm with resulting loss of hair or warts easily visible without close examination will not be permitted to exhibit and shall be subject to isolation or expulsion depending upon the nature and seriousness of the disease.

     13. Every precaution will be taken to protect exhibits, but neither the Fair nor FFA affiliates will be responsible for loss or damage to exhibits.

     14. Animals not meeting minimum weight requirements day of show will not sell.

Exhibitor's Code 0f Ethics

     1. False representation, interference, or unprofessional conduct on the part of any exhibitor will be dealt with by show management according to the circumstances of the case.

     2. All animals entered and accepted for exhibition must be presented in the show ring in their natural conformation and physical condition, with no other preparation except natural feeding, fitting and training permitted. Unnatural practices in fitting will cuase that animal to be disqualified.

     3. The management reserves the right to disqualify any animal that has been altered in conformation and structure though the use of prohibited substances or unethical fitting. This shall include, but is not limited to the following:

     I. The injection, use or administration of any drug that is used in a manner prohibited by Federal, State, or Local law.

     II. The injection or internal or external administration of any product or material, whether gas, solid of liquid, to any animal for the purpose of deception, including concealing, enhancing, or transforming the true conformation, configuration, color, breed, condition or age by making the animal appear more sound than otherwise would appear.

     III. The administration of diuretics for cosmetic purposes, tissue manipulation, surgical removal or attachment, or any other action to otherwise change, conceal, enhance, or transform the true conformation or configuration of the animal.

     IV. Attaching to the hide foreign objects including hair or hair substitutes, cloth, or fiber for the purpose of deception.

     V. Any physical or physiological attempt to alter the natural musculature or weight by use of injections or ingested material no conductive to the continued health of the animal, marketability of the carcasses for deception.

     VI. No drenching will be allowed

     VII. No coloring substances may be used that will change the natural color of an animal. In addition to the disqualification of the animal, exhibitor may be banned from future competitions.

All decisions and actions made by the management are FINAL. There will be no appeal process or open discussion once a conclusion has been made.

 

 

     Steers:

          1. Steers must be weighed in on third Saturday of February year of show.

          2. Steers must weigh a minimum of 1000 pounds on show day.

          3. Exhibitor must purchase and have ownership of the steer by January 1st year of show.

          4. Steers must be born after January 1st, year previous to show.

      Swine:

          1. Must be born after January 1st year of show.

          2. Hogs must weigh a minimum of 200 pounds day of show.

​

     Sheep:

          1. Must be born after January 1st year of show.

          2. Lamb must weigh a minimum of 70 pounds on day of show.

​

     Goats:

          1. Must be born after January 1st year of show.

          2. Goats must weigh a minimum of 70 pounds day of show.

All decisions and actions made by the management are FINAL. There will be no appeal process or open discussion once a conclusion has been made.
